YORK, Pa. – For a second time this season, York College wrestler Chris Albright has been selected as the Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week. Albright secures the honor after leading York to the American College Division title and being named the division's Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Virginia Duals.
Albright, who is now ranked #10 at 141 pounds in Division III according to the latest NWCA Brute/Adidas poll, put together an outstanding trio of bouts. In the opener on Friday, the Spartan newcomer posted a pinfall against Apprentice's B.J. Compton. The six-point victory came 4:28 into their match.
On Saturday, Albright put together two outstanding yet strikingly different bouts. In an exceptionally tight match against Nassau Community College's Kodie Silvestri, Albright was able to wrangle a slim 3-2 triumph over Silvestri.
Then in York's championship match against King, Albright registered his second pin of the Virginia Duals. He needed only 2:08 to record the fall as he now sits at an incredible 17-1 for the season.
Remarkably, of Albright's 17 wins this season 16 of them have come by way of pinfall or major decision. His match against Silvestri is his only win by decision thus far in the 2010-2011 campaign.
Albright, who was also chosen for this weekly award back on December 6, is only the second student-athlete to have been named Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week on two different occasions during the 2010-2011 academic year. In the fall, senior volleyball standout Alysse Beshore also was a two-time honoree.
Albright and the Spartans, who are now 11-1-1 and ranked #16 in Division III, head to Elizabethtown, Pa. on Tuesday, January 11. The Green and White are slated to face #9 College of New Jersey and #15 Centenary with the wrestling action starting at 2:00 pm.
