Spartans Go 2-1 at Hershey Duals

HERSHEY, Pa. – The York College wrestling squad traveled to Hershey Pa. on Saturday afternoon for The Hershey Duals. The Spartans picked up two wins against Johns Hopkins 21-15 and Shippensburg 23-19, but fell to Waynesburg by a slim 18-16 margin. The Green and White improve their early season dual-meet record to 2-1.

In the first match of the day, York opened with a victory over Johns Hopkins. Freshman Taylor Boyd was victorious with a 5-1 win at 125 pounds before fellow rookie Chuck Glatz extended the lead with a 12-2 win at 133. Sophomore Chris Albright also had a win at 141. Hopkins would go on to win the next four weight classes. Junior Alex Martocello broke the Blue Jays' streak with a win at 184 by a 13-4 count. Fellow junior George Saliba secured a tight 6-5 win at 197. Kyle Minogue closed out the match with a win at 285, 13-8, as his victory gave the Green and White the six-point triumph.

In the win over Shippensburg, senior 125-pound Jerrid Hartman posted a 5-1 victory to lead off the match . At 141, Albright had another win, picking up a 10-1 major decision. Freshman Trent Bond garnered a 9-4 win at 157 while junior Matt Heisey picked up a 5-0 shutout win at 165. Martocello and Saliba record two wins at 184 and 197, respectively. Martocello captured a 14-5 triumph while Saliba collected another close triumph at 6-4.

The Green and White ended The Duals with a tight loss to Waynesburg. Spartans Glatz, Heisey, Martocello, Saliba and freshman Jim Strusowski each secured individual wins in their respective matches. Glatz won 8-0 at 133. Heisey recorded a 8-5 win at 165. Martocello (15-7) and Saliba 6-2) won yet again 184 and 197. Strusowski captured a 7-4 win at heavyweight.

The Green and White return to action at home on Saturday, November 20. York hosts a quad meet as they welcome Waynesburg at 12:00 pm, Messiah at 2:00 pm and Lake Erie at 4:00 pm.
