YORK, Pa. – York College junior wrestler George Saliba has been chosen as the latest Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week for his 3-0 performance at the Hershey Duals on Saturday. With the trio of victories, the 197-pounder improves his flawless season mark to 7-0.
In York's first tilt of the day against John Hopkins, Saliba tallied a tight 6-5 triumph over Reid Mosquera. That victory helped to secure the Spartans' 21-15 season dual-meet opener over the Blue Jays.
The talented junior then backed up that first effort with another close victory against Shippensburg's Keith Dahlheimer. Saliba bested Dahlheimer by a slim 6-4 margin to notch the win. Tied 4-4, the pair went into overtime to decide the match's victor. Saliba snagged the sudden victory win with a two-point takedown to capture the final 6-4 result.
In his final bout of the day, Saliba picked up another decision this time by way of a 6-2 result over Waynesburg's David Wills. The junior posted two takedowns, an escape, and a riding time point to notch his third triumph of the Hershey Duals.
Saliba and the Spartans return to action on Saturday, November 20. The Green and White begin their 2010-2011 home slate next weekend as they welcome Waynesburg, Messiah, and Lake Erie to the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center. The wrestling action begins at noon.
