SHIPPENSBURG, PA – The struggles continued for the York College wrestling team on Thursday, as the Spartans fell 39-7 at Division II Shippensburg University. The Green and White drop to 8-17 on the campaign while the Raiders improve to 6-3.
York’s 125-pound weight class continues to provide the Spartans with outstanding efforts. This time around, Aaron Repman (Hanover, Pa./South Western) captured victory for the Green and White, securing a four-point 12-3 major decision to open the match. The triumph pushed the sophomore’s 2009-10 win total into double-digits as he now stands at 10-6 for the year.
Additionally, Repman’s victory marks the seventh straight match that York’s 125-pounder has won the opening bout. Repman has come out on top in the last three matches while junior Jerrid Hartman (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) posted triumphs in the previous four.
The Spartans would bookend their victories on this day as Thomas Fitzpatrick (LaPlata, Md./LaPlata) posted an 8-3 win in his 285-pound match. With the victory, Fitzpatrick improves to 5-7 overall for his senior campaign.
Alex Martocello (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place), York’s standout 184-pounder, narrowly missed capturing win number 20 for the season in his bout with Jon Hade. Pushing the match into overtime, Shippensburg’s Hade garnered the slight 3-1 win in the first extra session.
The Green and White return to action on Saturday, February 6, as they travel to New York for a tri-meet with Elizabethtown and Hunter. Wrestling action from the Big Apple is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. when the Spartans square off with the Blue Jays before taking on host Hunter in a 4:00 p.m. bout.
