Brian Thomason of York has been named the
d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week. Thomason, a
sophomore wrestling at 174 lbs., won three matches on Saturday to
help York College defeat NYU, Rhode Island, and King’s.
Against King’s, Thomason defeated 2008 NCAA qualifier Mike
Reilly, and he defeated Naum Shuminov of NYU the same day.
Each of them was ranked ahead of Thomason in the January 15th Metro
conference rankings. The previous week, Thomason defeated
Frank Heffernan of Wilkes and Greg Osgoodby of TCNJ. Going
into last weekend, Thomason was ranked 5th in the conference, and
over the next two weeks proceeded to defeat wrestlers each of the
four wrestlers in front of him in order.
A sophomore from Wernersville, Pennsylvania, Thomason is currently
25-3 in his first season of competition for the Spartans. A
2005 graduate of Schuylkill Valley High School, Thomason
transferred to York this year from Clarion. His only Division III
loss was early this season to Frank Heffernan of Wilkes, and he
avenged that loss last weekend. He is currently the top 174 lb.
wrestler in the Metropolitan Conference, and he will again compete
tonight against Millersville University as he and the rest of the
Spartans work toward the Metro championships February 21st.
