LANCASTER, PA – The York College
wrestling team procured their 13th win of the season Wednesday
evening courtesy of a 33-7 result over Thaddeus Stevens. The #24
Spartans, who bested Stevens by a 41-3 count on December 13,
improve their season mark to 13-10-1.
The Green and White captured all but two
matches on evening, including a pair of pinfalls.
Jerrid Hartman (Red Lion, Pa./Red
Lion) picked up York’s first six points by way of a
Stevens forfeit in the 125-pound bout. Senior co-captain
Kyle Flickinger (New Oxford, Pa./Bermudian
Springs) then tallied the Spartans first win on the mat in
the 133-pound match. Flickinger edged Alex Luzon by a slight 7-6
margin to nab three points.
At 141 pounds, senior Matt Volpe
(Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) tallied a first-period
fall, pinning Joseph Geiser 1:41 into the match.
After Stevens took the 149-pound bout, the
Green and White got back on track with victories in the next four
matches. Senior John Niedrich (Freehold, N.J./Christian
Brothers Academy) picked up a trio of points at 157
pounds. The senior co-captain notched an 11-5 triumph to push
York’s lead to a substantial 18-4 advantage.
Freshman Matt Heisey (Harrisburg,
Pa./Cedar Crest) nabbed the 165-pound bout courtesy of a
12-5 result before fellow rookie Paul Richards (Hermon,
Maine/Hermon) recorded a 7-0 decision at 174. Junior

posted York’s second pin of the evening. The 184-pound
Elliott came away with six points as he tallied a second period
fall at 4:48.
With the Spartans’ lead sitting
comfortably at 30-4, the Green and White split the remaining two
bouts to procure the 33-7 win. The Bulldogs’ Jeremy Gross
took a 5-3 win at 197, but York’s Joe Erb (Langhorne,
Pa./Pennsbury) finished the match in the Spartans’
favor with a 6-2 win in the 285-pound class.
The Green and White return to action on
