#24 Spartans Fall at Division II Millersville
MILLERSVILLE, PA – The York College
wrestling squad had their three-match win streak snapped on
Thursday night as the Millersville Marauders handed the 24th ranked
Spartans a 35-9 setback in Millersville, PA. The Spartans fall to
12-10-1 overall while the Marauders improve to 6-4.
The Spartan lineup was minus eight of the ten starters as
Chris Elliot (Crofton, Md./South River) and
Shane Cooley (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York) were
the only two regulars to wrestle in the match. It figured
that Elliott and Cooley were the lone Spartans to pick up wins as
Elliot posted a 4-1 win at 184 pounds and Cooley notched a forfeit
win at heavyweight.
The Spartans did have two close results as Aaron Formaneck
(Owings Mills, Md./Pine-Richland) dropped an 8-6 decision
at 141 pounds. Matt Heisey (Harrisburg, Pa./Cedar
Crest) was edged 3-2 by Jeremy Brooks in the 165- pound
bout.
The Spartan lineup was minus starters Jerrid Hartman (Red
Lion, Pa./Red Lion), Kyle Flickinger (New Oxford,
Pa./Bermudian Springs), Taylor Ulm (Great Meadows,
N.J./Hackettstown), Albert Gleichauf (Rochester,
N.Y./Greece Athena), Eric Rush (Hershey,
Pa./Milton Hershey), John Niedrich (Freehold,
N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), Brian Thomason
(Wernersville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley), and George
Saliba (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central). Those
eight wrestlers have combined for 132 victories for the Spartans
this year.
Earlier in the day, Thomason was named the d3wrestle.com
/ WWSport.com National Wrestler of the Week. Thomason, who
leads the Spartans with a mark of 25-3, has not lost a match since
December 6 and went a perfect 3-0 last week at the NYU quad
meet.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, February 4 when they
travel to Thaddeus Stevens. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm
start.
