Flickinger, Panizzi, and "Gang Green" Rank Among Nation's Best

The York College wrestling team enters the 2007-08 campaign carrying the 22nd place ranking according to the BRUTE/NWCA Division III preseason poll.  After a successful but disappointing 12-10 season last year, the Spartan squad is primed to regain its place among the nation’s best.

The Spartans are led by 2006-07 All-American Kyle Flickinger (New Oxford, Pa./Bermudian Springs), who is currently ranked fourth in the nation at 125-pounds according to the preseason Brute/adidas Division III Individual Rankings.  Last year, Flickinger posted a stellar 29-11 mark and won the Metro Conference Championship.  At Nationals, Flickinger took sixth place, earning All-American honors for the first time in his career.  The 125-pound phenom will again look to capture the top spot in the Metro Conference and bring home York’s third wrestling NCAA title.

Senior captain Luke Panizzi (Eatontown, N.J./Monmouth Regional) has earned the respect of the Division III wrestling world as he has garnered the eighth place slot in the preseason Brute/adidas Division III Individual Rankings.  A strong and athletic heavyweight, Panizzi put up 26 wins to only six losses last season.  At the Metro Championships, he just missed going to Nationals as he finished third in the conference.  Panizzi will look to close out his Spartan career with his first Metro title and a berth into the NCAA tournament.
