YORK, PA - The York College wrestling squad ascended three spots in the latest Brute/Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association team rankings as released on Tuesday, December 4. The Spartans (1-1) improve to #14 after spending the previous three weeks holding down the #17 spot.
In addition to the team’s improved position, the Spartans’ top three wrestlers each attained higher individual rankings. Kyle Flickinger (New Oxford, Pa./Bermudian Springs), the 125-pound junior, made the biggest move of the three increasing two places from seventh to fifth. Flickinger (12-2) had an impressive weekend at York’s Spartan Invitational. The junior ran through the tournament to win his division’s title while he also earned the Invitational’s Outstanding Wrestler honor.
John Niedrich (Freehold, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) jumps up to one spot to sixth in the latest poll. Taking 14 straight victories, Niedrich owns the Spartans’ best record as he has opened the season at 14-0. The 157-pound senior has won each of the three tournaments he has entered including last weekend’s Spartan Invitational.
Heavyweight Luke Panizzi (Eatontown, N.J./Monmouth Regional) moves up from #9 to #8 as he has rolled to a 12-2 mark. The senior placed first in the Ursinus Fall Brawl before grabbing second place in the Spartan Invitational.
The green and white travel to Messiah on December 8 in their last action before the Christmas break. SUNY-Morrisville and Johns Hopkins will join York and Messiah as the wrestling begins at 10:00 am.
