Strauch Named to the Capital One Academic All District Squad

YORK, PA – York College sophomore defender Megan Strauch (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) earned Capital One Academic All-District honors as released by CoSIDA on Thursday afternoon.

Strauch earned a spot on the 14-player At-Large squad. She was just one of two women's lacrosse players to earn the regional academic accolade from all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania.

Strauch boasts an impressive 4.0 GPA, as she is Secondary Education – Mathematics major at YCP. She has earned Dean's List honors in all three of her completed York College semesters.

Strauch earned first-team All-Capital Athletic Conference honors as the Spartans went 13-3 in the regular season before advancing to the CAC Championship game for the third straight year. The Spartans also earned their third straight NCAA Tournament berth and advanced to the Sweet 16 after their thrilling 13-12 second round win over St. John Fisher last Saturday. York heads to the third round of the NCAA Tournament with a school record 15 victories on the season.

Strauch is one of the top defensive players in the region. She leads the team in ground balls (35) while she is second in caused turnovers (18) and draw controls (34). She ranks eighth in the CAC in ground balls, 16th in draw controls, and 12th in caused turnovers. She spearheads a defense that allows just 7.92 goals per game including limiting ten opponents to single digit scoring during the year.

In addition to earning first team All-CAC honors, Strauch was named to the IWLCA All-Metro Region first team.

Spartan head coach Jen Muston is happy to see her sophomore defender get recognized for her work in the classroom.

"Megan does a great job for us on the field and she matches that with excellence in the classroom," said Muston. "She is they type of student-athlete we want on our team. Megan's academic and athletic accomplishments are well deserved and will serve her well as she continues her York College career."

Strauch now advances to the national vote where she will have an opportunity to be a national Academic All-America team member. That national squad will be announced on Tuesday, June 3.

Strauch and her Spartan teammates are heading to Amherst, Massachusetts to face the Lord Jeffs in the Round of 16 on Saturday afternoon. York is looking for their first berth in the Elite Eight. Game time in Amherst is set for 4:00 pm.
