DOVER, Del. – The York College women's lacrosse squad picked up another Capital Athletic Conference victory in the final game of the regular season. The Spartans defeated Wesley 16-6 on Saturday afternoon at Scott Miller Stadium.
The Green and White close out the 2013 regular season with an overall record of 12-3 and a conference record of 5-1. Wesley remains winless in the CAC and falls to 6-9 overall.
The Spartans got things started quickly in the first half. Kim Wayson (Harwood, Md./Southern) scored just 53 seconds into the game. Sarah Castle (Annapolis, Md./Delaware Country Christian) put York up 2-0 with a free position goal at 23:07. The Spartans continued to dominate on offense throughout the half.
Wesley was finally able to get on the board at 10:02 and added a second goal a minute later, but still trailed the Spartans 8-2.
The Wolverines scored their third goal of the game at the 25-minute mark. Spartan goalkeeper Kelsey Evans (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) came in for the Green and White at 28:02. Wesley added two more goals after the goalie substitution, but the Spartans were able to find their offense again, while shutting down the Wolverine offense.
York finished off the remainder of the game with on a 6-1 scoring run to complete the victory.
Leading the way on offense for the Spartans was Wayson. She finished the game with four goals on seven shots and one assist for five points. White recorded four points off of three assists and one goal. Castle and Erica Mulford (Crownsville, Md./Seton Keough) tallied three goals a piece. Brown, Kolacy, Nicolich, Jenna Hiponia (Annapolis Md./Annapolis Area Christian), Lauren Kula (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson), Leah Schultz (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keough), and Jocelyn Hudson (York, Pa./Central York) also registered points as well.
The Wolverines were paced on offense by Jen Jacobs who finished the game with three goals.
The Green and White outshot the Wolverines 42-12. Wesley also trailed the Spartans 23-18 in ground balls and 16-7 in draw controls.
