YORK, PA – The York College women's lacrosse team is 12 days away from opening their 2013 season. They will open that season as the ninth ranked team in the country according to the IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaching Association) as the poll was released recently.
Head coach Jen Muston welcomes back a strong core of players that led the Spartans to a school-record 14 wins in 2012. Muston was named the Capital Athletic Conference Coach-of-the-Year for the second straight year and was also selected as the IWLCA Metro Region Coach-of-the-Year thanks to her efforts in leading the Spartans to their first NCAA Tournament appearance and their first CAC championship game appearance.
Muston welcomes back seven All-CAC selections and four All-Metro Region selections. Senior Kim Wayson (Harwood, Md./Southern) earned York's first IWLCA All-American accolades as she was a second-team pick.
"We are certainly excited about being recognized as one of the top teams in the country but we also understand that we still need to work hard to push for the top," said Muston. "We have a very experienced team and they are ready to get on the field and start playing games."
Earlier in the off-season, the Spartans were ranked tenth according to Lacrosse Magazine.
The Spartans open the campaign on Saturday, February 23 at Goucher College. York opens their home campaign on March 13 against Catholic University. Five of York's 15 regular season games will come against teams ranking the preseason Top-25.
