Women's Lacrosse Earns First-Ever NCAA Tournament Berth

YORK, PA - The tenth-ranked York College women's lacrosse team received great news Sunday night as they were selected to participate in the NCAA Division III tournament. It is the first NCAA Tournament appearance in the eight-year history of the varsity program. The Spartans will head to Montclair State on Wednesday to open up the tournament. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.

The 2012 season has been full of milestones for the program. In addition the tournament berth, the Spartans finished the regular season with school-record 14 wins and earned a spot in the Capital Athletic Conference championship game for the first time in program history. Seven Spartans were named to the All-CAC squad with Leah Schultz, Kim Wayson and Katie Vautier earning first team honors. Head coach Jen Muston was also named CAC Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year for 2012, her second straight conference Coach-of-the-Year award.

York did not face Montclair this year but the Green and White defeated the Red Hawks 13-9 last April 5 in Monclair. The Spartans are 2-0 all-time against Montclair. The Red Hawks head into the tournament with a mark of 15-3. Montclair State earned its way into the field via the automatic bid for the third consecutive year as the Red Hawks claimed the Skyline Conference championship on April 28 with a 14-12 win at Farmingdale State.

The winner of the contest will advance to the second round on Saturday, May 12 against the winner of the Middlebury/Norwich contest.
