Record Four Spartans Selected IWLCA All-Metro Region

YORK, Pa. – The York College women's lacrosse team received exceptional news this week as four Spartans were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Metro Region squad. Sophomores Leah Schultz and Kim Wayson were chosen to the first team while classmates Tina Nicklas and Katie Vautier were second-team honorees.

Schultz makes her first appearance on the all-region team after a simply marvelous sophomore campaign. The talented midfielder was all over the field for the Spartans in 2011, as she was a major contributor in a number of areas. Offensively, Schultz notched 42 goals, a career-high, while she also collected a team-best 58 draw controls. The sophomore was invaluable for the Green and White defensively as well, picking up 25 ground balls and causing 13 turnovers.

Wayson finds her name on the all-region list for the second-straight season after landing on the second-team in 2010 while she was also named to the IWLCA All-Rookie Team last season. A first-teamer this year, Wayson piled up 78 points on 60 goals and 18 assists with each of those marks being team-bests for the campaign. In her brief career, the sophomore has already established program career records in points (150) and goals (117).

Nicklas, York's starting goalkeeper in 2011, garners an all-region second-team bid after a quality season. During her 737 minutes between the pipes, the sophomore posted a 7.81 goals against average while making 88 saves throughout the year. Nicklas' selection marks the second time a Spartan goalkeeper has been chosen the IWLCA all-region squad as Anne Feustle grabbed a spot on the 2008 team.

Vautier was nothing short of terrific for the Spartans throughout the 2011 season. An outstanding defensive player, she recorded team-highs with 43 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers while also snagging 32 draw controls for the York squad, York's third-highest total this year. Vautier becomes the second Spartan defender to be an all-region honoree as she joins former teammate Kelly Vrana who was a 2010 selection.

Garnering four spots on the all-region team marks a new first for the Spartan program. Previously the Green and White had a season-high of two players make the all-region list, capturing two selections each in 2007, 2008, and 2010. In total, York has now secured 11 all-region spots since the inception of the program in 2006.
