YORK, PA - York College women's lacrosse player Kimberly Wayson (Harwood, Md./Southern) captures Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week honors after a tremendous career-beginning contest in the Green and White's 8-7 season-opening victory over visiting Montclair last Saturday.
Wayson, who garnered a start in just her first collegiate game, notched three scores including the game-winner against the Red Hawks.
The rookie's first tally came with 9:49 remaining in the opening stanza, a score which stretched York's lead at the time to a significant 5-1 margin. Wayson would again score in the first half, giving the Spartans a 6-3 advantage finishing off the opening period scoring with her second career goal with 6:11 to play.
With the game knotted at 7-7, Wayson notched the game-winning score with just 5:17 to play. Fellow freshmen Kasie White (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) found Wayson, who had made a fantastic cut to the goal, allowing Wayson to score the decisive goal.
Wayson and the Spartans now turn their collective attention to Wednesday's Capital Athletic Conference tilt with Stevenson. Game time from York's Kinsley Field is slated for 3:30 p.m.
