Spartans Post Three on All-CAC Squad
YORK, PA – The York College women’s lacrosse team
received outstanding news this week as a trio of Spartans were
named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference squad for the 2010
campaign. Senior Kelly Vrana (West Islip, N.Y./St. John the
Baptist), freshman Kimmy Wayson (Harwood,
Md./Southern), and freshman Leah Schultz
(Catonsville, Md./Seton Keough) were each chosen to the
all-conference second-team for their efforts this season.
Vrana makes her second appearance on the all-league roster after
also being a second-team selection as a junior. Vrana put together
another terrific campaign as she became the bone fide leader of the
Spartan defense. The senior started all 16 York contests posting 33
ground balls and 31 draw controls, both top-three marks for the
Green and White, while she also caused 13 turnovers.
Wayson made a tremendous splash in just her first season of
collegiate lacrosse. The exceptionally talented rookie posted a
team-best 57 goals, the second highest total in the conference,
while also recording a team-high 15 assists. A starter from the day
the season began, Wayson’s three game-winners ties her for
the team-lead while she also picked up 20 ground balls and 20 draw
controls.
Schultz recorded an outstanding season in just her freshman year.
She tallied 37 goals, which ranks second on the squad, while
dishing out seven assists, the Spartans’ third-highest mark.
Her trio of game-winning tallies knots her with Wayson for the
team-lead in that category. A starter in all 16 games, not only was
Schultz outstanding on the offensive end but she also recorded a
team-high 37 draw controls and collected 32 ground balls, the
fourth-best on the squad.
Despite losing Vrana to graduation, the Spartans look to be in
great shape heading into next season. Six of York’s top
seven scorers, including Wayson and Schultz, are set to return for
the 2011 campaign as the Green and White continue to look to ascend
the tough CAC ladder.
