YORK, PA – York College women’s lacrosse junior Kelly Vrana (West Islip, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) has been selected to the All-Capital Athletic Conference squad for her outstanding performance during the 2009 campaign. The defender landed on the all-league second-team as she molded into one of the conference’s best defensive players.
Vrana started all 17 games for the Green and White this season, solidifying herself as a stalwart in the Spartans’ backline. The junior picked up 47 ground balls over those 17 contests while she also caused 21 turnovers. Vrana was adept at transitioning the Spartans from the defensive to the offensive end of the field, which helped her to record four goals on the season.
“Kelly stepped up and had an outstanding season,” Spartan head coach Jen Dragoni said. “She was a leader on defense and someone we looked to defend our opponents’ best offensive players. Kelly is extremely aggressive and is able to gain possession in tough situations. Her passion for the game and quality leadership abilities helped us improve throughout the season.”
Vrana helped a young Spartan squad to a 7-10 mark in the 2009 season. Only losing three seniors, the Green and White welcome back a slew of significant contributers for 2010.
