YORK, PA – The Intercollegiate
Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has recently
released their academic squads for the 2009 season. Spartan
standouts Anne Feustle (Baltimore,
Md./Catonsville) and Kelly Vrana (West Islip,
N.Y./St. John the Baptist) were both honored for their
academic achievements.
Feustle, a nursing major, completed her
eligibility with the Spartan squad last spring as York’s top
goalkeeper. For her career the netminder played an astounding
4,039:21 in 68 games between the pipes amassing 656 saves and a
.449 save percentage. Last semester Anne recorded a 3.25 grade
point average.
Vrana, a 2008 All-Capital Athletic Conference
defender, lands on the IWLCA Honor Roll after attaining a 3.7 GPA
in the spring semester. The junior, who majors in business
administration, appeared in all 17 contests last season, drawing
starts in each of those games. Vrana ranked third on the squad in
ground balls (47) and caused turnovers (21) while also notching
four goals from her defensive position.
“Anne and Kelly have worked extremely hard
to maintain an excellent GPA each semester while being key members
to the women’s lacrosse team,” Spartan head coach
Jen Dragoni said. “They are both enrolled in
academically challenging majors, and have continued to stay focused
on their studies in order to succeed in the classroom. I am so
happy that they were recognized for their achievements, and this
sets a great example to all student-athletes here at
York.”
The IWLCA recognized a total of 407
student-athletes at 152 institutions for their excellence in the
classroom during the 2008-09 academic year. All student-athletes
were nominated by their institutions and have attained at least
junior standing academically. Nominees considered had a GPA of at
least 3.5 or were in the top 10 percent of their squad.
