Bell Earns IWLCA All-Metro Region Honors
YORK, PA – York College senior midfielder Megan Bell (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) earned IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association) All-Metro Region honors as announced recently. She becomes the fifth Spartan to earn all-region accolades in the four-year history of the Spartan women’s lacrosse program.
Bell, who earned second team accolades, helped lead the Spartans to seven wins during the 2009 year. Bell finished the season with 37 goals and three assists for 40 points. She had 64 ground balls, 58 draw controls, and 36 caused turnovers in 17 games.
Spartan head coach Jen Dragoni was very pleased that Bell was recognized for her outstanding play.
“Megan is one of the most talented all-around players I have ever coached,” states Dragoni. “She is a true athlete and a true leader. As a captain, she stepped up this year and her performances in games went above and beyond her individual responsibilities on the field. She provided veteran leadership on a young team and she is 100% deserving of the all-region honors. I am happy that my fellow coaches in the Metro region felt the same way about Megan and I couldn’t be more excited for her.”
Bell finished her career with 83 points on 72 goals and 11 assists in 68 games. She is ranked fourth in career points, third in career goals, first in ground balls (195), first in draw controls (179), and first in caused turnovers (104).
Bell was one of two players to be a four-year letter winner as she started all 68 of her career games as a Spartan. York accumulated 31 wins in Bell’s four years in the Green and White.
