Blue Jays Sail Past Spartans in Non-Conference Action
YORK, PA-The York College women’s
lacrosse team fell to Elizabethtown College 22-10 in a
non-conference contest at a sunny Kinsley Field on Saturday
afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 11-3 overall while the Spartans
fall to 5-8 for the campaign.
The Spartans opened the scoring at the 27:10 mark of the first as Brianna Yapps (Joppa, MD/Fallston) received a pass from Jaclyn Girsh (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and put the ball in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Blue Jays tied the game exactly one minute later on a Katie Caprinolo goal from Megan Byrnes. That goal kick started an eight goal run that covered 10 minutes as the Spartans found themselves down big midway through the half. The green and white went on a spurt of their own as they scored three straight to trim their deficit to 8-4. The Blue Jays ended the half by scoring the final five goals of the stanza to take a 13-4 lead at the intermission.
Yapps again opened the scoring in the half but, again, the Blue Jays went on another run. This time they scored four straight as the lead grew to 17-5. Each team scored five goals over the final 15 minutes of the game to provide for the final margin.
Byrnes led the Blue Jays with seven points on five goals and two assists. Caprinolo added six goals for six points while Stephanie Kreis added four goals. Kelsea Kozak chipped in with four points on a goal and three assists.
The Spartans were paced by Yapps as she tallied five goals. Kaitlin Davis (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) added two goals while Girsh had two points on a goal and an assist.
