DATAW ISLAND, S.C. – The York College women's golf squad opened the 2018 portion of their season with a strong second place finish at the two day Taylor Made Invitational at Morgan River Golf Course in Dataw Island, South Carolina.
The Spartans notched a two-day total of 736 which included a school record score of 360 during Tuesday's second round. Ohio Domincan won the tournament with a two-day score of 673. The Spartans edged out Capital Athletic Conference rival Marymount by one stroke as York erased a 13 stroke deficit in round one.
The team score of 360 broke the school record by 12 shots. The previous record came on September 12 at the second round of the Bay Creek Invitational in Cape Charles, Virginia.
Freshman Emma Harding led the Spartans as she shot a total score of 179. Harding fired an opening round 90 and followed that with an 89 as she finished tied for 11th in the 39 player tournament. Freshman Bethany Snodgrass put together her best collegiate performance as she shot matching scores of 91 to finished with a score of 182. That allowed Snodgrass to finish 14th overall.
Freshman Eunice Sung was York's third finisher as she tied for 15th with a two-day total of 183. Sung shot 94 during Monday's opening round and was five shots better with an 89 on Tuesday. Freshman Lindsey Bonner was York's fourth scorer as she finished the tournament with a score of 192. Bonner shot a 101 on Monday but rebounded in a big way on Tuesday with a ten shot improvement as she carded a 91. That tied her for 21st in the tournament.
Freshman KeriAnne Mahoney was York's fifth tournament participant as she finished with a two-day score of 213 as she shot 110 on Monday and 103 on Tuesday.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday as the head to Mary Washington for the Mary Washington Eagle Invitational in Stafford, Virginia. The two-day tournament kicks off Saturday at 1:00 pm followed by a Sunday round that also begins at 1:00 pm.
