YORK, PA – The York College women's basketball team was stifled by a strong Geneseo defense and fell in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic Championship game 74-51 on Saturday afternoon.

• The Knights came out firing and opened up a 10-3 lead early on the Spartans who battled back and ended the quarter on an 8-2 run including a full court baseball pass from Kayla Ferris to a streaking Lindsay Brown who made the falling layup at the buzzer to cut the deficit to 17-13.
• Both teams exchanged blows in the second quarter as points were hard to come by and the Spartans eventually took the lead 24-23 with 2:45 remaining in the half off a Meghan Carlson jumper off a Katie McGowan pass. There was only one basket in the final 2:45 of the half and that was by Geneseo who took a 25-24 lead into the break.
• Molly Day opened the half with a three-pointer to give York a 27-25 advantage, but that would be the only points the Spartans would score in the period as they were outscored 26-3 in the quarter and trailed 51-27 headed into the final period.
• More of the same occurred in the final period with the Geneseo squad not allowing York back in the game who only got it as close as 17. The Spartans fell 74-51 in the championship match.

This was the first all-time meeting between the two schools … the Spartans allowed a season-high 74 points in their loss to Geneseo … York is now 18-6 all-time in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic tournament … the York offense was smothered as they scored a season-low 51 points … Kayla Ferris scored in double-figures for the third time this season and has not missed a three-point attempt in her last six shots ... Ferris was named to the All-Tournament team for her performances where she averaged 15 points per game during the tournament … Molly Day tied her season-high with three made three-point shots in the loss … York had season-lows in points, rebounds, and assists in the loss … the Spartans are now 1-2 at home this year.
The Spartans remain at home after Thanksgiving as they host the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays on Wednesday, November 28. Tip off scheduled for 6:00 pm at Wolf Gym.
