DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – The York College women's basketball team held Clark University to just 13 second-half points, defeating the Cougars 62-48 in non-conference action in Daytona Beach, Fla. Morgan Kuehne poured in 14 points while grabbing 11 boards to record her first double-double of her career.

• Both teams started slow, and York didn't score its first points until almost three minutes had passed. Beth Wiseley tallied the Spartans' first points when she knocked down a pair of free throws. Following that, York converted three of its next four shots thanks to one from Sam Mocniak and two from Katie Wagner. With just under 30 seconds left, Morgan Kuehne nailed a three pointer to cut the Spartan deficit to just two at 15-13.

• To open the second quarter, York raced out to a 10-2 run to take a 23-20 lead. Immediately following that, the Spartans put together another 9-2 spurt capped off by a pair of layups from Wagner. The Green and White's lead grew as large as 10 in the second period, but Clark finished with a long ball just before the buzzer to close within five, heading to the break at 40-35.

• Both teams combined to score just 14 points in the third quarter after combining for 47 in the second. York poured in eight of them, and went over three minutes without a field goal twice in the period. Haley Luckabaugh drilled a three pointer with 1:07 left to open up a 48-41 lead. The Spartans defense held Clark to just six total points in the 10 minutes of action, on just 2-for-12 shooting.

• The defense continued to lock down the Cougars in the fourth quarter, holding Clark to just seven points, totaling just 13 points in the entire second half. Clark shot just 4-for-28 in the second half and turned the ball over 11 times. The Spartans shot just 22.7% during the final two quarters, but still managed to outscore Clark by nine points. The lead dwindled to just six, but Molly Day and Wagner converted buckets to expand it back to 10. Day hit another shot before Sammie Matteo and Bailey Smith finished off the Cougars 62-48.

The victory snapped York's three-game losing streak, its longest of the season … Morgan Kuehne recorded her first double-double after pulling down a career-high 11 rebounds … the Spartans held Clark to just 13 second-half points, the lowest of the season … for the second consecutive game Katie Wagner scored 14 points, and now has finished in double figures in eight of the 11 games this season, averaging 12.3 ppg … 11 different Spartans scored and 16 earned playing time.


The Spartans head back into Capital Athletic Conference play next week, heading to Salisbury on Wednesday. The battle with the Sea Gulls is slated for 5:30 p.m.
