YORK, PA – York College junior forward Sam Hruz (White Marsh, Md./Mercy) has been named to the Scoutware D3hoops.com Team of the Week as announced by D3hoops.com on Tuesday evening.
D3hoops.com is in its 18th season of naming a team of the week as the team honors the top players nationally at each position from the previous week.
Hruz led the 8-0 Spartans to a pair of victories this week including a 55-49 CAC win over previously Mary Washington.
Hruz started the week with her fourth double-double of the year with 12 points and a career-high tying 15 rebounds in the Spartans' non-conference win over Goucher. Hruz was 4-for-8 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the free throw line in the win. She also had three assists, a blocked shot and a steal.
Against Mary Washington, Hruz recorded her fourth straight double-double and her fifth of the year as she had a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds. She was a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line while she tied a school-record with seven blocked shots in the win. Hruz also had a pair of steals in the Spartans' win.
For the week, Hruz averaged 15 points and 14 rebounds per game while she also averaged 4.0 blocked shots, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals.
For the season, Hruz is averaging 15 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. She is shooting 48.1% from the floor and 80.4% from the free throw line. She has blocked 21 shots, dished out 17 assists and collected 20 steals.
Hruz ranks fourth in the CAC in scoring, first in rebounding and blocked shots, and second in free throws made per game.
On Monday, Hruz was named the Capital Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week.
The last Spartan to earn the Scoutware D3hoops.com honor was Shea Wassel on January 20, 2015.
The Spartans are now off until Monday, December 28 when they face William Paterson in the opening round of the Hoops for Hounds Tournament hosted by Lycoming College. The Spartans and Pioneers will tip off at 7:00 pm.
