YORK, Pa. – The Spartans' women's basketball team travel to Dover, Delaware on Saturday, December 8 to face the Wesley College Wolverines in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm tip time at Wentworth Gym. The Spartans come in to the game with a perfect 7-0 (1-0 CAC) record and a national ranking of #12 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and 14th in the d3hoops.com Poll.
This ranking does not take in to account the Spartans' most recent victory, a 26-point win over Franklin & Marshall College in Wolf Gymnasium on Tuesday night. In the game, junior forward Brittany Hicks (Dover, Pa./York Catholic) led all scorers with 24 points. The Spartans also shot 47.1% from the 3-point arc and 75.8% from the free throw line. The defense won the always-important turnover battle 22-8.
The Wesley College Wolverines come in to this game with a record of 2-5 (0-1), losing their CAC opener by 32 points at Marymount (Va.). The Wolverines' offense runs through senior guard Jazmine Miller. Her 20.0 points per game is more than double any other player for Wesley and she is second on the team in assists.
The Spartans and Wolverines met twice last year, resulting in two blowout wins for York. The Spartans traveled to Dover and beat Wesley 92-47 before returning home later in the season and defeating them in York 85-46. Last year, Wesley finished seventh in the Capital Athletic Conference with a record of 6-19 (3-13 CAC).
The Spartans have a long hiatus before their next game on Saturday, December 29 at 6:00 pm at home in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic against the Wheaton College (Mass.) Lyons.
