York College junior forward Brittany Hicks (Dover, Pa./York Catholic) was named the Capital Athletic Conference women's basketball player of the week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Hicks led the nationally ranked Spartans to a trio of victories to start the season.
Hicks began her week with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the Spartans' season-opening 55-44 win over regional rival Johns Hopkins. Hicks converted 4-of-5 from the free throw line while she also had two assists and two steals in her 33 minutes of work.
In the opening round of the Seven Daly Hotels Classic in Greensboro, Hicks tallied 15 points and 13 rebounds with one blocked shot in the Spartans' 57-34 win on Saturday.
She followed that up with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the championship game win over Guilford on Sunday. Hicks also had four assists and a steal in the victory.
Hicks was named the Tournament MVP for her performance over the weekend.
Hicks' three double-doubles raised her career total to 14. She averaged 13.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game in the three contests. Hicks also converted 84.2% of her free throws for the week.
The Spartans are ranked 18th in the nation according to d3hoops.com while they are also 19th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
