YORK, PA – The York College women's basketball team earned their second straight berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament as announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon. The Spartans will travel to Juniata College to play St. Vincent College in Friday night's first round. Juniata plays Castleton State in their opening round game on Friday. The two winners play Saturday evening. All game times have yet to be determined.
The Spartans earned an at-large bid after crafting a record of 22-5. The Spartans finished second in the Capital Athletic Conference in the regular season and lost 50-46 to undefeated Mary Washington in a tight CAC title game. St. Vincent enters the tournament 22-6 and also were an at-large selection after falling to Thomas More, 77-66, in the President's Athletic Conference championship game on Saturday.
This year's berth comes off a season with the second-highest win total in school history, second to the 2008-09 team that won 27 games and advanced to the Sweet 16. The Spartans are 2-2 overall in the NCAA Tournament.
