YORK, Pa. – York College women's basketball freshman forward Brittany Hicks has been named the Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week for her quality performances during the Green and White's pair of Capital Athletic Conference contests last week.
Hicks led the Spartans to a 1-1 week as York fell in overtime at St. Mary's (Md.) 79-70 on Wednesday evening then returned home on Saturday to defeat Frostburg St. 81-56. The rookie averaged 20.5 points over those two games as well as 9.5 rebounds.
Against the Seahawks in the midweek match-up, Hicks was nothing short of fantastic for the Green and White. In her 37 minutes of action, Hicks posted a team-high 28 points on a 12-for-21 performance from the field while ripping down 13 caroms, including eight on the offensive end. She went 3-for-5 from the free throw line while chipping in with three assists and one steal.
In York's triumph over the Bobcats on Saturday, Hicks contributed 13 points and six rebounds in just 21 minutes of work. Impressively, the rookie forward scored nine of her 13 from the charity stripe as she went 9-for-13 from the line.
For the season, Hicks is averaging 10.6 points per game, while shooting a strong 49.2% from the floor. She also posts 5.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per outing. (Statistics prior to Rowan game on Monday night.)
The Spartans, who fell to Rowan on Monday night 64-60, return to action on Tuesday, December 28. The Spartans are set to travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. where they will take on Western Connecticut St. on the 28th before playing Denison on the 29th.
