Sapp Named Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week

YORK, PA - York College junior women's basketball center Jaimie Sapp (Bluemont, Va./Loudoun Valley) has just been selected as the Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week for December 14-20. Sapp led the Green and White (4-4, 1-1 CAC) to their first CAC victory of the season on Monday, topping Wesley 69-52 in York.

Sapp led all scorers last Monday with 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting while posting a near flawless 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Sapp added nine rebounds and two blocks over her 31 minutes of play.

The junior turned it on for the Spartans over the game's final 9:47. She tallied 13 of her 20 points during that timeframe, a span in which the Green and White fashioned a huge 27-3 run, that helped the Spartans battle back from an eight-point deficit earlier in the half.

For the season, Sapp is second on the squad averaging 10.3 points per game while shooting nearly 45 percent from the floor and 78.3 percent from the charity stripe. She has started all six games in which she has appeared averaging almost 24 minutes per contest.

Sapp and the Spartans return to action on January 2 as York hosts the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center. The Green and White square off with Ursinus on Friday at noon before taking on either Norwich or the College of New Jersey on Saturday, January 3.
