YORK, PA- York College senior point
guard Keli Ward (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) continues
to accumulate accolades for her outstanding play in leading the
Spartans to a trio of victories this past week. For the first time
this year, Ward earned a slot on the prestigious d3hoops.com Team
of the Week. The team recognizes the top five individual
performances around the nation for the week. Ward led the 13th
ranked Spartans to a trio of victories last week including a
12-point victory over previously ranked Marymount on Saturday.
Ward notched a trio of double-doubles in the Spartans' three wins. She began the week with 24 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a win over second-place Wesley, then followed that with 16 points, 10 assists and three rebounds in the win over Gallaudet. She concluded the week by leading the Spartans to a win at then-ranked Marymount. In the victory against the Saints, Ward had 20 points, 10 rebounds, and was credited with two assists.
Ward is ranked among the national statistical leaders in four offensive categories. Ward is second in assists per game (7.4 apg), sixth in assist to turnover ratio (2.86), 33rd in field goal percentage (53.5%), and 87th in points per game (16.6 ppg).
Ward also ranks among the leaders in the Capital Athletic Conference. She is first in scoring, assists, steals, and assist-to-turnover ratio. Ward also ranks second in free throw percentage, third in three-point field goal percentage, third in field goal percentage, seventh in three-point field goals made, seventh in offensive rebounds, and ninth in rebounding.
The senior captain leads the Spartans back in action on Wednesday night against Hood before the Green and White heads to Stevenson on Saturday night. York then welcomes Mary Washington to Wolf Gymnasium in a big conference clash at 6:00 pm.
