Keli Ward Named CAC Player of the Week for the Fourth Time

Keli Ward earned the Capital Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week award for February 8-15, 2009. It is the fourth time this season that Ward has been recognized by the league for her outstanding play.

Keli Ward led the 10th ranked Spartans to a pair of important road wins this past week. The Spartans defeated McDaniel 59-57 on Thursday evening before posting a 76-67 CAC victory at Wesley.

In the win over McDaniel, Ward had 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. She was 6-for-9 from the floor including 2-for-3 from downtown. She also handed out seven assists and also had a blocked shot and a steal. Ward set up the game-winning play as she threaded a pass to April Sparkman who hit the game-winner with 1.2 seconds left in the game.

Against Wesley, Ward had 19 second half points to lead the Spartans to their school-record 22nd straight win. Ward finished with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting including 5-for-6 from the free throw line. She pulled down 11 rebounds for her 27th career double-double and second for the week.

For the week, Ward averaged 19.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. She shot 62.5% (15-for-24) from the floor, 2-for-3 from three, and 6-for-7 from the free throw line.

For the season, Ward is averaging 16.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. She is shooting 54.2% from the floor, 40.7% from three, and 83.5% from the free throw line.
