Spartans Rise in National Rankings

YORK, PA - The York College women's basketball team continues to climb the Division III national rankings as the Spartans made a significant move in both polls after a three wins last week. The Spartans now sit 13th in the Top 25 and 14th in theWBCA USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll. The Spartans moved up four spots in the poll and seven spots WBCA poll.

The Spartans earned the promotion in the polls thanks to a trio of wins including a 12-point road win at Marymount in a battle of nationally ranked squads. The Spartans also downed second-place Wesley College 89-59 on Monday followed by an 82-41 victory at Gallaudet on Wednesday.

The Spartans, who are now 16-1, have won a school-record 16 straight after opening their season with a six point loss to number 11 Messiah College.

York is also ranks highly in the national Division III statistics. York is first in the country in assists per game (20.1 apg), second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.23), third in scoring margin (26.4 ppg), fourth in field goal percentage (47.5%), sixth in scoring offense (80.2 ppg), and sixth in win-loss percentage (94.1%). York is also ranks 18th in three-point field goal percentage (37.2%) and 20th in blocked shots per game (4.9 bpg).

Senior point Keli Ward (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford), the current Capital Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week, is ranked among the national statistical leaders in four offensive categories. Ward is second in assists per game (7.4 apg), sixth in assist to turnover ratio (2.86), 33rd in field goal percentage (53.5%), and 87th in points per game (16.6 ppg).

Ward also ranks among the leaders in the Capital Athletic Conference. She is first in scoring, assists, steals, and assist-to-turnover ratio. Ward also ranks second in free throw percentage, third in three-point field goal percentage, third in field goal percentage, seventh in three-point field goals made, seventh in offensive rebounds, and ninth in rebounding.

As a team, the Spartans lead the CAC in scoring offense, scoring margin, free throw percentage, field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage defense, blocked shots, assists, steals, assist to turnover ratio, and defensive rebounds. The Spartans currently rank second in the league in scoring defense, field goal percentage defense rebounding defense rebounding margin, turnover margin, and three-point field goals made.

York hosts Hood on Wednesday before traveling to Stevenson University on Saturday. The Spartans then welcome #25 Mary Washington to Wolf Gymnasium in another battle of nationally ranked squads on Monday evening. The Hood and Mary Washington games both tip at 6:00 pm. Top 25
