GUILFORD, NC - The York College women’s basketball team won both contests at the Guilford College Classic, posting a 74-58 victory over Averett College Saturday afternoon. The Spartans open the year 2-0 while Averett falls to 0-2.
Jumping out to an early lead, the Spartans opened the game on a 12-4 run. York continued to control the pace of play, steadily building their lead throughout the first 20 minutes. A Chanel Perez (Biglerville, Pa./Gettysburg) free throw gave the Spartans their biggest first-half advantage at 29-12 late in the opening frame. In complete control, the green and white went into the locker room with a 37-22 halftime lead.
A similar story ensued in the second stanza as York continued to play solid basketball. A pair of charity stripe scores from Kristen Daly (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) followed by a made jumper from the senior forward gave the Spartans their largest lead of the night at 53-33.
The green and white proceeded to put it into cruise control coming away with the 74-58 win.
For the game, Daly led all scorers pouring in 21 points. Filling up the stat sheet, she recorded seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals in 36 minutes of action. The senior’s impressive pair of games garnered tournament MVP honors.
Amanda Andrews (Fallston, Md./Fallston) backed up last night’s stellar performance with another double-digit scoring effort. The junior guard tallied 14 points and chipped in three rebounds en route to being named to the all-tournament team. Perez and Keli Ward (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) also added eleven points each.

recorded 18 points on the afternoon, as Washington also had 13
The Spartans begin their 2007-08 home slate Tuesday, November 20. Former Capital Athletic Conference foe Goucher College visits York, PA for the 6:00 pm tip-off.
