Spartans Earn Split in CAC Finale

YORK, PA. – The York College softball team split their conference finale against Frostburg State University on Friday afternoon. York took game one 5-2 but dropped the nightcap 4-1 in extra innings.

How It Happened

• York got on the scoreboard first bringing in a run in the bottom of the first inning. Shyla Pastore reached on a lead-off walk and would later come in to score during a rundown in the infield to give York the early 1-0 lead.

• The Spartans would add another run in the second inning on a two-out RBI-double down the left field line by Natalie Decena to plate Madison Brumagin as York doubled their lead. A Taylor Lindsay two-run single to center field in the third would push York's advantage out to four as Ginger Lewis continued to stifle the Bobcat hitters.

• York would get their final run in the fourth inning on an infield single by Alyssa Harhigh to bring in Decena to extend the lead to 5-0. Frostburg would finally get on the board in the top of the seventh plating a pair of unearned runs but York would take the opener by a 5-2 score.

How It Happened

• After a scoreless first inning, Taylor McCarty would launch a solo homer to center field to give Frostburg their first lead of the day as they lead 1-0 after two innings.

• The Spartans would get that run back in the bottom of the fourth when Joanna Marmo punched a single to right center to bring in Alyssa Harhigh as York tied the score up 1-1 after four.

• After three scoreless frames that saw each team only muster one hit, Frostburg would take advantage of a Spartan error in the eighth inning. McCarty doubled to right center that brought in three Bobcats, all of which were unearned, to give Frostburg a 4-1 lead with three outs to go. The Spartans would be retired in order by Emily Moll and split the doubleheader 4-1 in their conference finale.

  

SPARTAN NOTES:

The Spartans are now 4-19 all-time against the Bobcats … York is now 1-2 in extra innings games this season and have been outscored 9-4 in extra innings … with the Bobcats scoring four off the Spartans, York is now 2-8 when their opponent scored 3-5 runs in a game … York's three hits in game two were the fewest in a game since they had three back on March 30 against Mary Washington … York had their five-game streak with a home run snapped in game one … Taylor Lindsay continued to be a major run producer for the Spartans as she has driven in nine runners in her last six games … Ginger Lewis eclipsed the century mark for innings pitched after tossing 15.0 innings on the day, she now has thrown 109.0 innings and has reached the 100 inning mark in all three seasons of her career … her 1.09 ERA continues to lead the CAC … Shyla Pastore set a new career-high with three walks in game one, which is also tied for the second-most in a single game in school history … the Spartans are 7-5 at home on the year.

The Spartans will conclude their regular season schedule with a non-conference doubleheader against Albright College on Monday. First pitch scheduled for 3:00 pm at Spartan Softball Stadium.
