LOUISVILLE, KY – The 2018 York College softball team posted the 12th highest cumulative grade point average among NCAA Division III programs in 2017-2018, as they earned the Easton/NFCA Academic Team Award for the third consecutive year. The national ranking of 12 is an increase of 10 spots from 2016-2017 when they were ranked No. 22 with a team grade point average of 3.530. The Spartans took care of business in the classroom this year with a team GPA of 3.590. York is the only member of the Capital Athletic Conference represented in the top 50.
The softball squad also boasted a program high 12 individuals who were named Division III Scholar-Athletes. To be eligible for nomination of this honor, student-athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the 2017-2018 academic year. The 12 Spartan honorees were the most by any CAC program and brings the total to 31 Scholar-Athletes recognized in the last three years.
The 12 recipients from 2017-2018 are: Madison Bowen, Quinn Fisher, Savannah Galati, Melissa Jurkiewicz, Samantha Kiser, Joanna Marmo, Cassie McGrath, Ashley Meekins, Julie Van O'Linda, Jordan Vazquez, Ashley Werner and Savannah Zittle.
