How It Happened
• Both teams combined for just four hits in the first two innings, as both pitchers cruised through the first few innings. In the bottom of the third, though, Southern Virginia broke through. After giving up a leadoff single, Ginger Lewis earned back-to-back outs, but three consecutive singles from Knight batters scored a pair of runs, giving SVU an early 2-0 lead.

• Neither team could earn a hit in the fourth inning, but then with two outs in the top of the fifth, Savannah Zittle reached first on an error and quickly advanced to second on a wild pitch. That bit of fortune proved vital, because Ashley Meekins bounced a single to left center, driving Zittle home to cut the SVU lead in half at 2-1. In the bottom half, however, the Knights threatened with runners on first and third with just one out, but Lewis quickly dismissed the attempt after striking one batter out and forcing a line out to keep the score 2-1 after the fifth.

• In the top of the sixth, Ashley Werner swiftly knocked a double into right field before Madison Bowen was called to pinch run for her. Bowen moved to third on an error as Joanna Marmo reached first. Mia Ruffalo came in to run for Marmo and then quickly stole her second base of the season to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Shyla Pastore was next, and singled to the shortstop, scoring Bowen, and then Ruffalo followed her home after a throwing error. Pastore moved to second with still no outs for York and a 3-2 lead. Haley Hirn grounded out but was able to move Pastore to third on the play. With two outs, Savannah Galati walked and then Zittle came through again, singling to left field to score Pastore. When Meekins singled to left, Jordyn Reith, pinch running for Galati, scored along with Zittle, pushing the Spartan lead to 6-2 before the inning was over.

How It Happened
• York was held hitless in the first two innings, but jumped out front in the top of third after Savannah Zittle earned a one-out walk. She stole second and then scored when Eryn Bailey tripled to left field. That was all the Spartans could manage in the third, but it was enough to take the lead.

• Meanwhile, Melissa Jurkiewicz was stellar on the mound, and allowed just one hit through the first four innings. In the fifth, two runners were on base with just one out, but Jurkiewicz forced a ground out and then a fly ball to end the inning without any runs.

• In the bottom of the seventh, York was still clinging to its 1-0 lead, but after a one-out single, Mykayla Johnson launched a walk off two-run homer to spoil Jurkiewicz's dominating performance in the circle and split the double header.
