LANCASTER, PA – The York College softball squad picked up a doubleheader sweep of Franklin & Marshall College on a cold and wet Tuesday afternoon in Lancaster, PA. The Spartans won game one 4-1 and completed the sweep with a 3-2 victory in the nightcap.

The games were originally scheduled to be played in York but a wet outfield prevented the Spartans from hosting the games. However, the Spartans were still considered the home team in both contests. York has now won four straight and 10 of their last 12 games.

How It Happened

• The Spartans got a pair of runners on base in the bottom of the first but couldn't get either runner home as the game remained scoreless through the first.

• York got a two-out triple from Shyla Pastore in the second. Senior Savannah Zittle drew a walk to put runners at the corners but Diplomat starter Izzy Schaefer got out of the jam with a pop up to end the frame.

Jordan Vazquez, running for Marmo, stole second to put runners at second and third. Haley Hirn reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases for the Spartans. After the Dipomats got a ground ball out to erase Bowen at the plate, Savannah Galati stroked a three-run double to center, giving York the 3-0- lead. Galati moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Pastore single to center as the lead grew to 4-0.

• The Diplomats got their lone run in the top of the seventh as Sammy Burns drilled a one-out solo home run to left, spoiling the shutout for the Spartans.

• Spartan starter Ginger Lewis registered 13 strikeouts in the complete game win and that's the third time this year she has reached double digits in punch outs. She has struck out 28 hitters in her last 13 innings of work.
