ST. DAVIDS, PA – The York College softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Eastern University on a breezy Friday afternoon in St. David's, PA. The Eagles won game one 4-3 and then captured the nightcap 5-3. York falls to 21-19 with the two losses while the Eagles improve to 13-17 with the two wins.
In game one, the Eagles jumped on York early with a three-run bottom of the first inning. All three runs came courtesy of a Emily Houck three-run homer as the hosts assumed control of the game immediately.
York finally got on the board in the top of the sixth inning as Katie Maloney (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) walked and came home on a two-run shot to centerfield by newly minted All-CAC outfielder Jayci Cristaudo (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon).
The Spartans then tied the game in the top of the seventh as Miranda Shandy (Bowie, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) jacked a solo shot to left. The Spartans got two more runners on base with a pair of walks but York wouldn't be able to push home the go ahead run.
The Eagles won the opener in the bottom of the seventh as Deanna Laughman doubled to left to lead off the inning. After a sacrifice bunt moved her to third, Laughman scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Ashton Tomlinson to end the game.

The Spartan lead grew to 3-0 in the third when Maloney singled, advanced on a ground out and scored on a Vanessa Mendez (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) single. The inning could have been so much bigger as York loaded the bases only to let Eastern off the hook with a pair of strikeouts to end the frame.
