Petteys Announces 2014 Softball Coaching Staff

YORK, PA - York College Women's softball head coach Jen Petteys has announced the addition of Jess Rhoads to the Spartan softball staff for the 2013-14 year. Rhoads will work primarily with the pitchers.  Assistant coach Brittany Schlorff returns for her second season under Petteys and will work mostly with the middle infielders and catchers.

Rhoads joins the softball team after a wildly successful athletic career at Messiah College where she graduated with a BA in sport management and a MA of higher education in athletics management.  Rhoades was the head coach for Northern High School in 2012 and an assistant coach for the Krunch Gold softball team. She has been giving individual pitching lessons since 2010.

Rhoads will be an asset for the team with her experience as a 2-time MAC pitcher of the year, MAC first-team, and first team all-region. Rhoads holds 895 career strikeouts and multiple career shutouts. She dominated MAC hitters with a career 0.45 ERA in 89 appearances. She had an overall record of 71-6 and she was an integral part of the National Championship team in 2009, and was voted as a 2010 NFCA first-team All-American.

"I am thrilled to have Jess join our staff and begin her collegiate coaching career at York College."  said Petteys.  "She was an impact player and dominating force in the circle throughout her collegiate playing career. She knows what it takes to get our team to championship status which is exactly what we are striving for here at York."

Schlorff returns for her third year as an assistant coach at York.

Schlorff was a three-year Spartan after transferring into the program as a sophomore. She played in 111 games as a Spartan. She was a .302 career hitter with 41 runs scored, 30 RBI, 13 doubles, four triples, and one home run. She had a .401 slugging percentage, a .368 on-base percentage, and a .938 fielding percentage as a shortstop and second baseman. Schlorff stole ten bases and had 22 career sacrifice hits.

She was selected as a second-team All-CAC pick after both her junior and senior seasons for the Spartans.

Schlorff will be responsible for working with the middle infielders and catchers as well as coaching first base for York.

"Brittany is a hard worker that has made herself an important part of our staff," says Petteys.  "She is a bright young coach that brings an energy and enthusiasm to the program."

With a well-rounded coaching staff, the Spartans will look to begin their quest for a championship.  The 2014 roster features 10 newcomers and nine returners. The roster has just one senior and four juniors with the remainder of the returners being sophomores.
