FROSTBURG, MD – The Frostburg State University Bobcats got a walk-off two-run homer to Shari Beavers as they edged the York College Spartans in the opening round of the Capital Athletic Conference softball tournament on Tuesday in Frostburg, MD.
The Bobcats improve to 21-14 overall as they advance to face second-seeded Mary Washington in the second round while the Spartans have unenviable task of going to top-seeded Salisbury with the task of winning an elimination game in the second round.
The Spartans opened the scoring in the second as Sara Thacker whacked a two-out RBI double to right, scoring Cara Rubinaccio with the game's first run. York made it 2-0 in the top of the third as Hannah Hugel singled, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Frostburg throwing error.
The Bobcats rallied to tie the game with a two-out rally in the bottom of the third as Caitlin Lovend had an RBI single while Beavers plated the other run with an RBI single of her own.
Frostburg took a 3-2 lead with a single run in the bottom of the fourth. The Green and White tied the game in the top of the sixth courtesy of a Bobcat error. That would set the stage for Beavers' heroics with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Senior Brittany Therres suffered the loss as she allowed five runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings. She struck out one and walked two as she falls to 10-12.
