Carr and Barwick Earn Capital One Academic All-District Accolades
YORK, PA – York College softball senior softball players Karen Carr and Michelle Barwick were recognized for their academic and athletic accomplishments as they both earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District softball squads as announced by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) recently.
Carr earned a spot on the All-District 2 College first team while Barwick earned a position on the second team. Carr boasts a 3.77 GPA in Accounting while Barwick has a 3.78 GPA as a Business Administration major and minors in Spanish and Human Resource Management.
Carr finished her senior year in impressive fashion. The Spartans' centerfielder hit .347 with 22 runs scored, 20 RBI, three doubles, a triple, and a home run in 38 games. Carr owned a team-best .589 slugging percentage thanks to her 56 total bases. She also drew a team-high 15 walks, which led to a .446 on-base percentage.
Carr finished her Spartan career as a .286 hitter with 38 runs scored, five doubles, two triples and six home runs. She drove in 24 runs and had 73 total bases for her career. Carr also finished her four years in the Green and White with a .970 fielding percentage including a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage as a senior.
Carr established a number of career-highs during the year. She had three hits in the April 6 game against Frostburg, while she established three game highs against Stevenson on April 3 with two home runs, five RBI, and eight total bases in the Spartan win.
Academically, Carr is a seven-time member of the York College Dean's List, a three-time CAC All-Academic team member, and a three-time member of the York College Athletic Honor Roll.
Barwick has been a standout for the Spartans both on and off the field for the last four years. The senior had another strong year as she hit .288 with 18 runs scored, 19 RBI, six doubles, and a triple in her 39 games played. She posted a .356 slugging percentage and a .339 on-base percentage. She was nearly flawless in the field as she made just two errors in 358 fielding chances for the Spartans this year.
For her career, Barwick is a .310 hitter with 63 runs scored, 126 hits, 23 doubles, two triples, a home run, and 69 RBI. She had a .384 slugging percentage and a .357 on-base percentage. Barwick was simply fantastic with the glove as she made just nine errors in 1082 attempts in 152 career games. That converts to a .992 fielding percentage for her career.
Barwick established a number of single-game highs this year. She had four hits in the March 1 game against Mary Washington while she also tied a career high with seven total bases and four RBI against the Eagles in that same game.
In the classroom, Barwick is a seven-time member of the York College Dean's List while she is also a three-time member of the CAC All-Academic team. She has also earned a berth on three York College Athletic Honor Rolls.
Carr now advances to the national vote where she will have the opportunity to earn national academic accolades.
