OWINGS MILLS, MD – York College senior centerfielder Karen Carr went deep twice to power the Spartan softball squad to a 7-0 Capital Athletic Conference win at Stevenson University in a make up game on Sunday. The Spartans improve to 16-8 overall and 5-3 in the conference while the Mustangs fall to 13-10 overall and 3-5 in the CAC.
Carr gave the Spartans the early lead as she jacked a three-run homer in the top of the first. It was her second straight at-bat with a round tripper as she went yard in her last at-bat against Salisbury on Saturday.
The Spartans added a single run in both the second and third innings to push the lead to 5-0. York's second inning run came courtesy of a Michelle Barwick RBI single. Their third inning run came on a Carr solo shot to left, her third straight tater.
York collected two more runs in the top of the seventh as Barwick picked up another RBI single while Carr drove in another run with a bases loaded hit by pitch.
Junior Brittany Therres tossed four innings to earn her ninth win of the year. She scattered two hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Freshman Chelsea Bock tossed the final three innings, allowing three hits with a strikeout.
Julianne Roper was tagged with the loss as she allowed all seven runs on nine hits in her seven inning stint. She walked four and struck out two as she falls to 9-5 for the year.
Carr finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a career-high five RBI. Barwick added two hits and two RBI while freshman Jill Martin was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
The Mustangs had five players pick up hits in the game with Desirae Sullivan getting the lone extra base hit with her lead off triple in the sixth.
The Spartans step out of conference play on Tuesday when they host Messiah College in a non-conference twin bill. First pitch at Spartan Stadium is set for 3:00 pm.
