YORK, Pa. – York College softball senior first baseman Michelle Barwick has been named the Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week. Barwick was simply outstanding for the Green and White as she helped lead the York squad to a 7-1 record to begin the year.
Putting together a tremendous open to the season for the Spartans, the senior posted a team high with ten hits and 12 runs batted in during the opening week of games while she tied for the team-lead in total bases with 15.
Starting at first base in each of York's eight games thus far this season, Barwick has been to the plate 23 times and is hitting a strong .435 while also scoring five runs.
Barwick's single-best performance of the season came in the Spartans' 12-4 win over Capital Athletic Conference foe Mary Washington on March 1. In what was actually played as a non-conference tilt, Barwick went a flawless 4-for-4 from the dish, knocked in four R.B.I. and also scored two runs.
Barwick and the Spartans return to action on Friday, March 11, when they travel to Salisbury, Md. for the Salisbury University Tournament. York opens up play against Baruch at 10:00 am before facing Virginia Wesleyan at 12:00 pm.
