The NCAA Tournament bound Shenandoah Hornets handed the York College Spartan softball team a pair of non-conference losses on a beautiful, sun drenched Tuesday in York. The Hornets won game one 3-1 and completed the sweep with a come-from-behind 5-3 win in the nightcap.

The Frostburg State University Bobcat softball team made its first Capital Athletic Conference tournament appearance a successful one as the Bobcats downed the York College Spartans 4-2 on Thursday in Frostburg. The Spartans fall to 18-13 overall while the Bobcats improve to 14-15.

Senior Spartan softball player Karen Carr has been selected as the CAC Softball Player of the Week for April 11, 2011. Carr hit .500 last week in six games for the Spartans as York made it's push for seeding in the upcoming CAC tournament.

Spartans Celebrate Senior Day with Split
The York College softball team split a Sunday afternoon doubleheader against Bridgewater in York. The Spartans won game one 4-3 in eight innings before the Eagles stormed back to take game two, 5-3, in the nightcap. The Spartans celebrated their five seniors prior to the game in York's annual senior day.

The York College softball squad closed out their 2011 Capital Athletic Conference slate with a double header split against Mary Washington on Saturday. The Eagles won game one 2-1 in nine innings in the opener before the Spartans bounced back to register a 7-0 win in the nightcap.

The games were originally slated to be played at Frostburg but wet field conditions forced the games to move to York.

The Spartans improve to 16-8 overall and 5-3 in the conference while the Mustangs fall to 13-10 overall and 3-5 in the CAC.

The 16th ranked Salisbury University Sea Gulls swept the York College Spartan softball squad in a Capital Athletic Conference double header on Saturday afternoon in York. The Sea Gulls won game one 9-0 in six innings and then captured the nightcap 4-3.

Spartans Fall to Mustangs; Game Two Postponed
The York College softball team lost one game to Stevenson and the other to the late winter weather on Wednesday afternoon in Owings Mills, MD. The Spartans lost the first game of the scheduled double header to the Mustangs, 4-3, and then had a 7-1 lead erased by a cold rain in the night cap. The game will be resumed at a later date.

Starry Selected to Lead Spartan Softball Program
York College Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation Sean Sullivan has announced that Nicki Starry has been selected as the Spartans’ new full-time softball coach. Starry served as an interim head coach during the 2010 after taking over for the departed Jennifer Patrick-Swift.
