Therres Named Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week

YORK, PA - With the 2010 spring campaign getting into full swing, York College softball's Brittany Therres (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone) has been named the Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week. The sophomore pitcher led the Green and White to a 2-0 start at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

In York's 11-2 season-opening win over Gwynedd-Mercy on Sunday, Therres started in the circle for the Spartans throwing a flawless two innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Later that day, Therres tossed a complete game shutout in the Spartans tight 1-0 triumph over RIT. During that contest, the sophomore allowed just four hits over seven innings as she struck out two and did not walk a batter.

In total, Therres threw nine scoreless innings with four strikeouts while only allowing those four RIT hits. Opponents have hit a slim .121 against the sophomore thus far.

Therres and the Spartans continue their stretch of contests on Monday with games against St. Benedict and a rematch with Gwynedd-Mercy.
