York College softball third baseman Kelly Smith has been named a pre-season honorable mention All-American according to Division III Softball - The Newsletter as announced recently. Smith is one of just three Capital Athletic Conference players to earn the honor.
Smith returns for her sophomore year coming off a freshman campaign that saw her hit .385 with 33 runs scored, 25 RBI, eight doubles, three triples, and a home run. She owned a .541 slugging percentage and a .457 on-base percentage. She stole 14 bases and was outstanding a third base with a fielding percentage of .970 as she had just four errors in 133 attempts.
Spartan head coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift is happy to see her
standout sophomore recognized.
"I am happy to see Kelly earn some well deserved recognition," says Patrick-Swift. "I fully expect her to pick up where she left off last season. She is a very talented player that has worked hard and continues to get better."
Smith and the Spartans open the season on February 27 at the Methodist College Early Bird Tournament.
