Stephen LoBianco enters his fifth season at the helm of the Spartans after taking the reigns of the program in August of 2013.
LoBianco's 2010 inaugural season with the Spartan cross country squad proved a tremendous one as he saw Mandy Parshall capture York's first-ever individual conference championship in women's cross country. Additionally, he helped the Green and White to a pair of quality third-place team finishes at the annual Capital Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships.
During 2011, LoBianco helped mentor Tim Hartung and Steven Childres, as they went 1-2 at the CAC Championships as the Spartans earned their first ever Cross Country championship. Hartung continued his great season with a ninth place finish at NCAA regionals. LoBianco also helped guide Hartung to York’s first ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships.
As year three progressed, LoBianco saw the Men’s Cross Country team win its second straight CAC Championships, with Hartung repeating as CAC individual champion. Hartung continued his success at NCAA Regionals where he placed 5th while helping the Men’s team to a program history high finish of 7th. LoBianco then helped coach Hartung to York’s first ever NCAA Cross Country All-American, as Hartung finished 7th at NCAA Cross Country Nationals.
In 2013,his first year as head coach, LoBianco has continued the success of the Cross Country program with many program firsts. For the third straight year, the Men’s Cross Country team were CAC Champions and Hartung captured his third straight individual title. The team went on to tie the program’s highest NCAA Regional finish with a seventh place finish, while for the first time in program history two athletes earned All-Region accolades. LoBianco was able to once again coach Hartung at nationals, where for the second year in a row he was able to become an NCAA Cross Country All-American with a 24th place finish. On the women’s side, there were many firsts as well. LoBianco coached Caroline DeLany and Jess Miller, as they went 1-2 at the CAC championships for the first 1-2 finish in program history in 2013. The success continued after the Women’s team placed 8th at NCAA Regionals as a team, the first top ten finish in program history. LoBianco was able to see Miller receive All-Region accolades and be York’s first female cross country runner to compete at NCAA Cross Country Nationals.
In 2014, the Spartans placed five men and 4 women to the All-CAC team at the conference meet. At the NCAA Regional meet, Jess Miller and Caroline DeLany both earned All-Region accolades with their 14th and 21st place finishes. This marked the first York has ever had two women earn All-Region awards. Miller made her second straight NCAA Championship appearance where she established herself as the highest placing Spartan ever at the NCAA Championship.
During 2015, the Spartans placed 4 men and 4 women to the All-CAC team at the conference meet. Alicia Dillman won the individual title, being only the third Spartan to ever win a conference crown. All three of which were coached by LoBianco. Jess DelViscio was earned Rookie of the Year as she was the top placing freshmen. Dillman’s success continued at NCAA Regionals, where she placed 27th place, earning All-Region Accolades.
Lobianco captured another milestone in 2016, when he guided the women's cross country team to their first CAC championship. The title broke Christopher Newport's three-year streak as the Spartans defeated the Captains by two points. Individually, four Spartans were first-team All-CAC honorees. Showing their youth, two of the four were sophomores, while another was a freshman. Two more Spartans earned second-team honors, another freshman making the list. The Spartans were ninth at the Mid-East Regional, and Kathleen Cannon earned All-Region honors.
The Spartans celebrated more success on the men's side in 2016, highlighted by Grant Dell's fifth-place finish at the CAC championships, his third time earned All-CAC honors. Dell was the only first teamer for the men, while three others earned second-team honors. As a team, York finished second. Four Spartans finished All-Region, and York finished fourth in the Mid-East Regional.
