Spartans Place 2nd At 2012 Dickinson Long-Short Invitational
CARLISLE, Pa. - The York College men's cross country team ran strong and placed 2nd out of 14 teams Saturday afternoon at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational.
The race was a good practice for the team since the Regional meet will be held at the same course later in the season.
The overall team results are based off of both the 4K race and the 8K race. Each team takes their top three scores from each race and adds them together. Despite tough competition the Spartans scored a total of 152 points and came in only behind host Dickinson College.
In the 8k Tim Hartung (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was the first finisher for the Spartans. Hartung ran a very solid race and came in 8th place with a time of 26:30. Next to cross the finish line for the Spartans was freshman Carus Cookman (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) at 27:28. In his freshman season Cookman has been running extremely well. Aaron Robertson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) ran 27:47 and came in 42nd place for the Green and White. Rounding out the scoring for York was junior Matt Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) with a time of 28:00 and Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) finishing close behind at 28:06.
"Our top five men ran really well in the 8k today," said head coach Erick Camodeca. "I am really happy with the outcome of the race."
York was successful in the short race of the day too. Coach Camodeca said that the team was able to come in second overall because the men finished strong in the 4k. The first to earn points for the Spartans in the 4k was freshman Travis Deckert (New Windsor, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) at 13:55.9. Next to finish was freshman Russell Souder (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) in 23rd place at 13:59.6. Andrew Ward (Oxford, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) finished with a time of 14:08.1, while Joey Orlando (Minotola, N.J./Buena Regional) ran 14:36.5. Also scoring points for the Spartans was Joey Corrigan (Northport, N.Y./Northport) with a 40th place finish and a time of 14:41.7.
The Spartans look to continue their success Saturday at the Goucher College Classic. The race is set to start at 11:00 am.
