YORK, PA – The York College men's and women's cross country teams enter their respective campaigns with high expectations after stellar 2011 seasons including a men's Capital Athletic Conference championship.
The schedule features six regular season competitions and the 2012 Capital Athletic Conference championships hosted by Frostburg State University.
The season opens at the Galen Piper Cross Country Challenge hosted by Division II Shippensburg University on September 1. The Green and White then competes in their lone home appearance of the year on September 15 as they host the Rich Achtzehn Classic at John Rudy County Park. The Spartans, who hosted the CAC championship meet in the rare late-October snowstorm last year, have hosted the Classic the last two years. It is named for York College Hall of Fame coach Rich Achtzehn.
The Spartans will get a preview of the CAC championship course as they travel to the Frostburg State Invitational on September 22 at the Maplehurst Country Club in Frostburg, MD.
York heads to Dickinson on September 29 for the Long/Short Invitational at Big Spring High School in Carlisle, PA. The invitational features two races for each gender, as there is a 4K and 8K race for the men and a 4k and 6k course for the women.
The Spartans look back to the past and to the future in the following two weeks. They travel to former CAC foe Goucher College for the Gopher Invitational on October 6 followed by a trip to future CAC opponent Christopher Newport at the Captain Invitational on October 13.
The Spartans begin their second season on October 27 when they travel to FSU for the conference championship.
The NCAA Regionals will be held on November 10 at Big Spring High School followed by the NCAA Division III Championships on November 17 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
