Hartung Posts Fourth-Place Finish; Spartans Compete at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – The York College men's cross country team competed at the 2011 Dickinson Long and Short Invitational on Saturday. The Spartans ran in both the 4k and 8k events, finishing a combined ninth overall out of the 16 schools that competed in both events.

In the short course portion, the Spartans, according to head coach Erick Camodeca, "were phenomenal" and saw three York runners place in the top-30.

Tim Hartung ran a tremendous 12:42 to take fourth overall out of the 166 competitors. Hartung, who is only in his sophomore campaign with the Green and White, was only seven seconds off the winning time of 12:35.

"Tim scorched the course in a very competitive field today," Camodeca noted.

John Wallace was the second York runner to cross the finish line as he posted a 13:12. That time allotted the sophomore 23rd-place overall, while junior Steven Childres recorded a 13:18 to snag 29th.

Matt Smith and Craig Eppler also put together solid races for the Spartan squad. Smith ran to a 61st-place 13:50 while Eppler's 13:55 landed him in 68th.

In the long course event, Wil Murray led the way for the Green and White as he ran to a quality 29:09 to take 76th out of the 184 participants.

With the next week off from competition, the Spartans return to action on Saturday, October 8. York travels to Center Valley, PA for the Pre-Regional Meet hosted by DeSales University. Start time is slated for 10:30 am.
